What I Have To Do To Become A Doctor

Doctors, MED STUDENTS? what undergrad major to Become Doctor?
I am planning on Becoming A doctor (dermatologist or surgeon of some sort)
and I have absolutely no idea as to what Undergraduate major to choose.
Obviously, I should go into something related to Biology…
Doctors or Med students,, what undergrad major did you take?
I assure you that it doesn’t make the least bit of difference, not with the admissions process and not with how it will help you learn the material in med school. I was a biochem major but I’d say half the students had majors in the non-sciences. Everyone takes the same prerequisite science cores, so everyone has the same core knowledge. Beyond the basic cores, you really don’t need anything else, plus when you enter med school, they have a specific way in which they want you to learn the material, so learning it ahead of time is not necessarily to your advantage.

Filled with straightforward, unadorned honky tonk and gentle, rolling ballads, What I Do makes it clear that Jackson doesn’t have the slightest interest in becoming a full-fledged, crossover country-pop star. This is the purest country album he’s cut in a long time, but what makes it one of his very best albums isn’t its purity, it’s how it’s delivered with a quiet confidence, a big heart, and a sly sense of humor. Jackson has backed away from any big social statements — there is a song called “USA Today,” but far from being a comment on either the state of the world or his celebrity, it merely tells the tale of “the loneliest man in the U.S.A. today” — and sings about love, heartache, churches, fixing cars, and wishing “If French Fries Were Fat Free.” As that last song suggests, he’s learned from his idol George Jones that even songs about heartbreak can be just as effective if delivered with a sense of humor, but the best joke here is “The Talkin’ Song Repair Blues,” where Jackson haggles with a mechanic who fancies himself a songwriter. Despite these moments of levity, much of What I Do is heavy on ballads. While it’s true that the loping drinking song “Strong Enough” and rip-roaring “Burnin’ the Honky Tonks Down” are so good it’s hard not to wish Jackson threw a few more ravers into the mix, each of these ballads works splendidly, whether it’s the sweet “Too Much of a Good Thing,” the gently supportive “There Ya Go,” or the aching “Rainy Day in June.” Given the preponderance of ballads and the laid-back delivery, What I Do has an intimate, relaxed feel, the polar opposite of a sequel to a blockbuster like Drive usually is. The CD’s only real standard is the ballad “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” — the other selections range from Rollins originals (which include the funky, playful “Did You See Harold Vick?” and the calypso-minded “Salvador”) to forgotten songs from 1937 movies. “Sweet Leilani” (which the seminal Bing Crosby defined) is from the film Waikiki Wedding, while “The Moon of Manakoora” is from The Hurricane (which starred Dorothy Lamour). Neither are tunes that have been done to death by hard boppers, and Rollins has no problem showing us that they can be relevant to jazz. After about 500 years ? the figure is a little indefinite but it’s on that order ? both elements will have decayed far enough so that they are no longer a problem. Thereafter the radioactivity of the waste is confined largely to the heavy actinide elements and the daughter products that result from their radioactive decay. These elements, of course, are still dangerous. They would be especially dangerous if, by some strange accident, a repository should be split wide open and its contents exposed to the air so that dust containing actinide elements could become airborne. A situation that would lead to this kind of accident, however, is difficult to imagine. If the actinide elements and their daughters stay in the repository, most of their compounds are very insoluble and would not be picked up by ground water to any appreciable extent. The small amounts that did dissolve would be largely adsorbed on mineral surfaces as the ground water moved. Therefore it seems to me that these elements, which have very long half lives and which will continue to emit relatively feeble radiation for periods of hundreds of thousands or millions of years, do not constitute a very great danger. The intensity of radiation from waste, in fact, after about a thousand years is little greater than that from the radioactive material of a medium-grade uranium ore deposit. This is why, like Congressman McCormack, I pick a figure of 500 to 1000 years as the time during which isolation of the waste is most essential. This becomes a very important point.
